"Now you're part of the family." With these words of trust, Mattia W. Wohlfahrt—CEO and sole shareholder of Blüthner Pianos Schweiz AG and operator of the Blüthner Center in Grenchen, in the Canton of Solothurn—was appointed the exclusive importer of Blüthner instruments for Switzerland in 2016. As the youngest descendant of one of Switzerland's most distinguished piano-making dynasties, Mattia Wohlfahrt earned his first pocket money in his father Werner Wohlfahrt's workshop at an early age. After completing his apprenticeship at the Burger & Jacobi piano factory in Biel and in his father's business, he continued his training in the piano and grand piano department of Zurich's renowned Jecklin music store. In 1989, he joined the family business, where he established a comprehensive piano tuning service, prepared expert appraisals, and restored pre-owned instruments. It was through this work that his passion for Blüthner was born.

“From time to time, grand pianos from the Leipzig workshop came into our restoration shop, giving me the opportunity to discover the unique qualities of these instruments from the inside out,” recalls Mattia W. Wohlfahrt. In 1991, he traveled to Leipzig and, with great respect, knocked on the doors of the Blüthner factory. That first meeting marked the beginning of a close and lasting friendship with Ingbert Blüthner and his sons, Knut and Christian, who now lead the family business in its fifth generation. No other Swiss piano maker is as intimately familiar with the craftsmanship, distinctive construction, and specialized techniques behind these instruments, which have been built exclusively in Leipzig since 1853.
